DIRECT IMPACT RESPONSE TEAM (D.I.R.T)
HAVE YOU HEARD THE DIRT?
United Way is forming a grassroots group of volunteers who will take on dirty or otherwise
challenging service projects once a month called DIRECT IMPACT RESPONSE TEAM (D.I.R.T).
Once a month we power through a volunteer project. Get-your-hands-dirty-you’re-really-going-to-work
projects. Show up. Get dirty. Change your clothes. (did we mention that you’re going to get dirty?)
Go back to your life and say to yourself “WOW…..I really DID something today!)
Projects are 60-90 minutes in length and are focused on helping people. You would be surprised
what 20-30 volunteers can accomplish in an hour!
HOW TO GET D.I.R.T.Y
Just show up. D.I.R.T HAS NO MEETINGS..NO COST…IT'S TOTALLY INFORMAL.
Just a down and dirty shared experience of community service and volunteerism. A no-strings
attached way of giving back to others. If you’re busy and overcommitted but secretly wish that the
Justice League was real and that you were on it then D.I.R.T is for you!
PROJECTS
Our first D.I.R.T project was the local homeless shelter, Hope in Christ Ministries. We unpacked
organized, sorted and then repacked a small house full of rummage to be used later for a
fundraiser rummage sale all in less than an hour. Hope in Christ Homeless Shelter is Jefferson
county's only homeless shelter.
Next Project - June 4 @ 5:15 pm at the
Mt. Vernon Little House
We will be raking and burning leaves and doing yard work to get the Little House
ready for the summer.
Bring your rake and gloves.
The Mt. Vernon Little House is the meeting place for hundreds of local girl scouts troops
in Jefferson county. The house provides a safe and secure environment in which the
girls have meetings, camp-overs and other activities. Located in the “little house” next to
Strothman park.
Following the DIRT work each night the group will gather at the Frosty Mug to talk and share
your community experience. Sign up today and become an inaugural DIRT CLOD
D.I.R.T. - It’s NOT GLAMOUROUS WORK
BUT it’s the RIGHT THING TO DO.
