DENTAL ACTION DAY

Mike Beard assists patients with paper work Dr. Alan Fry discuss treatment with Marilyn Harris
In Jefferson County alone there are over 10,000 individuals on Public Aid. Over 78% of our children live
at or below poverty, qualifiying for free or reduced lunch programs. We have one dentist that accepts the
state medical card due to the poor reimbursement by the State of Illinois.
At United Way we know that hundreds if not thousands of people are not receiving the dental care they
need because they simply do not have the resources to pay for dental services.
On June 21, United Way's across the nation will participate in a National Day of Action, each choosing a project unique to their community. Its the longest day of the year, with more daylight hours than any other so it presents an annual opportunity for the United Way system to declare its intention to improve lives in measurable and lasting ways by mobilizing people around a common goal: advancing the common good. On this day its an opportunity for United Way communities to show the world what it means to LIVE UNITED.
For our Day of Action, United Way of South Central Illinois's project is to bring awareness to the problem of accessible dental care to the people in our communities and we are actually extending it to a Week of Action!
During the week of June 15-19 eleven dentist in Jefferson County will serve over 50 people with extreme financial and dental need. These dentists are volunteering their time, resource, staff and hearts to reach out and help others.
The United Way would like to recognize and sincerely thank the following dentists that
are participating in our Dental Action Day!
