IMPACT

Tackling Food Insecurity and Empowering Communities

United Way of South Central Illinois Making a Difference in Our Community United Way of South Central Illinois is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families in Jefferson, Marion, and Washington counties.

Through a variety of initiatives and partnerships, we are making a significant impact in addressing social issues and promoting community well-being. Here are some of the highlights of our work:

Monthly Mobile Markets and Tiny Pantries: In our commitment to addressing food insecurity, we are proud to sponsor monthly mobile markets. These markets provide essential groceries to those in need, ensuring that individuals and families have access to nutritious food. Additionally, we have recently added two new tiny pantries in our community. These miniature food pantries provide 24/7 access to essential supplies and nourishment for individuals facing food insecurity.

ADVOCATE

Advocating for Lasting Change

Advocating is More Than Politics
In addition to contacting legislators, every time you speak to a friend, post a note on Facebook or hang a flyer in your local neighborhood, you are advocating.

Advocate in Your Community
We need your help promoting these causes:

  • Promote the Need for mental health

  • Tell someone about 2-1-1: This helpline can only work if everyone knows they can use it.

  • Help people save on Prescription Drugs: FamilyWize discount card saves people an average of 30% on their medications. Read more or download flyer.

  • Raise funds for Education, Income and Health Initiatives: Raise awareness about these issues by reposting our Facebook or e-newsletter updates.

Donating Food to Charity

We feel very fortunate to be a partner to UWSCI and an allocated agency. United Way helps us with so many things. Of course, the funding allows us to make huge strides in our Prevention education component of our CAC, but the added support cannot be understated. Whether through the "United We Give" program which allows us to constantly keep our comfort closet stocked for our child clients and their families, or through the community facilitation and integration ideas for agency presence, The Amy Center benefits greatly from the support of UWSCI. We've had a longstanding relationship with them, and we hope to continue that on as long as possible. We see what they're doing to make a difference in their covered counties, which also accounts for three of the seven counties we serve. They're filling a need and supporting us and encouraging us to do the same. We couldn't be more grateful!
